I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, if it isn't please contact me and I'll delete this topic/move it somewhere else.

This article came to my attention today (http://www.enewspaper.mx/?p=46370 is the specific article I'm talking about; also, another similar version in English here: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/08/29/us-soccer-germany-lahm-homosexual-idUSTRE77S1QV20110829 which also has a comment by Scottish cyclist Obree; and here: http://ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=9359&MediaType=1&Category=22 ), so I thought I would mention it.

Basically in his new biography Germany NT captain Lahm says gay footballers should stay in the closet to avoid ending up "like Justin Fashanu". The article mentions Mario Gomez' interview last November in which he stated the opposite, and also another interview to Manuel Neuer in which he said gay footballers should come out in order to "live their lives and careers more freely". Theo Zwanziger, president of the Germany football association, also revealed he would support any gay footballer who decided to come out.
Finally, the article mentions Piqué's interview after that infamous picture with Ibrahimovic was leaked by the press, when he answered the question whether there are any gay footballers: "Of course there are. But they remain silent because of the machismo attitude surrounding football. I wish they were able to come out freely - or not, if they do not wish to - and that people would leave them be."

I've only translated/summarized the contents of the first article, that is, the one in Spanish, but you guys are interested, I could hunt down the original articles (in German and Spanish) and translate them for you. Let me know if you're interested!
